SAMAY’S STORY

Bio Headshot.jpg

Growing up in Owings Mills, Samay owes his entire grade-school education to Baltimore County Public Schools. Samay attended New Town Elementary, Sudbrook Middle, and Western Tech High. He then went on to attend the University of Maryland, where he earned two undergraduate degrees, and is now studying at the University of Maryland Carey School of Law.

As a Sikh Indian-American, Samay’s faith and upbringing instilled in him the importance of equity, justice, and opportunity. Samay’s parents, Navdeep and Monica, who moved here from India, have reinforced these principles throughout Samay’s life. Samay’s sister, Tamanna, represents a commitment to these values through her pursuit of a career in teaching. Samay continues to promote and ensure equity, justice, and opportunity for all through public service.

Samay’s mission began in high school, when he worked for Senator Cardin and the Maryland Democratic Party. These experiences provided a foundation on which to build, and cemented his passion for public service. In college, he went on to represent student interests in Annapolis and DC as the UMD Student Government Director of Government Affairs, expand field operations for County Executive Johnny O’s 2018 campaign, and craft inclusive 2020 Primary plans at the DNC.

In law school, he’s continued this mission by spearheading Baltimore County campaign finance reform efforts, serving on the executive board of the Young Democrats of Maryland and leading the Caucus of Color, working with Baltimore County Police on cultural awareness training, and representing the AAPI community on the Baltimore County Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Council.

In all of his roles he’s made it a point to get tangible work done. Now, he’s asking you to help take part in a historic race to help him get elected to represent District 4 on the Baltimore County Board of Education. As he continues his work, we are excited to hear your feedback on how to best represent our community in this new capacity.

When Samay’s not working, you can catch him hanging out with his family’s dog, Dunkin, waiting for the next Ravens kickoff, or heading to Northwest Regional Park to play pick-up with friends.
